For many years after Margaritas became popular in the U.S. they were almost unknown in Mexico. There, the most popular drink that was similar was the tequila sour.
2 tablespoons lime juice
2 tablespoons sugar
1 ½ ounces silver tequila
To make the sour mix, stir together the lime juice, sugar, and enough water to measure just over ½ cup.Pour the tequila over ice in tall, thin glass, and top with the sour mix. Garnish with and orange slice and cherry. The drink can also be shaken and strained to serve it up.
